Barely a day after serving fraud charges against Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan , National Director of Public Prosecutions Shaun Abrahams says he won't hesitate to review the charges should Gorhan himself make an application review for such determination. Fending off the barrage of questions from members of the portfolio committee on justice in parliament, Abrahams was at pain telling MPs that it was not his decision to lay charges against Gordhan and two former South African Revenue Services officials Ivan Pillay and Oupa Magashule. A man who is alleged to have shot dead three people at Pretoria East security estate has killed himself. The man was found dead in his Meadows estate in Moreleta Park, Pretoria after he held hostage two police officers and three security guards. The motive for his shooting spree is still unknown. Phumzile Mlangeni reports.

The situation remains tense at the University of KwaZulu-Natal as some students continue boycotting classes while non-striking students try by all means to attend their classes. There has been another fire at one of the residences on the Pietermaritzburg campus. Parts of the council chamber offices were torched and a small portion of the television room at the Malherbe residence was also set alight. Both fires were extinguished by the university security staff. Meanwhile, three UKZN students from the Pietermaritzburg campus have appeared in the local magistrates court facing charges of public violence. Meanwhile, the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT)'s Spokesperson Lauren Kansley says the University has suspended its operations until further notice. She joins us on the line now to give us an update. We also caught up with the students at the TUT Main Campus who say they would like to continue with studies while negotiations with management are taking place. The Commission investigating the commercialisation of religion has found that many South African churches are selling religion to desperate and vulnerable people. It says the majority of churches do not abide by the country's laws. The Commission has recommended that all religious institutions be registered and affiliated to some regulatory body to be established immediately. Senior journalist Thabile Mbhele reports

Outgoing Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela and President Jacob Zuma appear to be locked in a standoff over the probe into allegations of State Capture by the Gupta family. Madonsela is probing the alleged involvement of the family in the dismissal and appointment of cabinet ministers and State Owned Enterprise Board of directors. The family is suspected of using its proximity to the president to improperly influence the awarding of state contracts. However both the Presidency and the Office of the Public Protector don't seem to be able to agree on how the investigation should proceed. Our Political Correspondent Ntebo Mokobo has more.

The news of Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan recieving summons to appear in court rattled the markets. The rand weakened by three percent to the US Dollar, with the financial stocks the hardest hit following the news. Gordhan was about to deliver a keynote speech at a conference of the Gauteng provincial government in Johannesburg when he learned that a summons had been delivered at his house today. Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan is not above the law and he ought to humble himself by facing all allegations against him in the courts of law. This is the majority view held by political parties represented in parliament. Their mixed reactions were responses to what they described as shocking charges against Gordhan. While they sympathised and have confident on the innocence of the minister, members of parliament were very smart at making sure that the rule of law cannot be surpassed by emotional expressions.
