Newly-re-elected Cape Town Mayor, Patricia de Lille has dismissed criticism that her mayoral committee is gender and racially imbalanced. She was speaking after her inauguration for another five-year term. The DA won the city in last week's local government election with a two-thirds majority. The ANC has questioned the formula used to determine seats allocations in the municipal elections. Secretary General Gwede Mantashe has suggested that something is "wrong" with the formula as the party meets for the first time following a bruising election. The National executive committee is meeting until Sunday - after the party's support dropped to fifty four percent nationally. Mantashe says while they look at what went wrong -he has dismissed speculation tha the meeting will discuss President Zuma's future role in the party. The South African Revenue Service has asked the Constitutional Court not to force it to reinstate a racist employee. Jacobus Kruger got into trouble after using the k-word to refer to his supervisor. The Disciplinary Inquiry stopped short of dismissal, ordering a final written warning and counselling. But the then SARS commissioner ignored that ruling and fired Kruger instead. The child has become known as Baby X- to protect the identity of her young siblings who are testifying. She allegedly died at the hands of her 31-year-old mother and 51-year-old maternal grandmother. The fees commission has kicked off on a shaky start with the South African Union of Students expressing dissatisfaction on how the commission is doing its work. The students wanted to know the status of fee increment for 2017, but Commission Chairperson Judge Jonathan Arthur Heher, has made it clear that the commission has no power to decide on that, but will merely make recommendations which the President will decide on what to do with them. The commission was established in January this year, and is looking at the feasibility of a free higher education and training in South Africa. Phumzile Mlangeni reports.
