A study by the global medical charity MSF, or Doctors without Borders, says one in four women have been raped in the mining town of Rustenburg in the North West. The study says this has resulted in extremely high levels of psychological problems among the victims. The annual Smile Week, where plastic surgeons assist children in need of facial and other reconstruction is underway at Port Elizabeth's Provincial Hospital in the Eastern Cape. The initiative which is sponsored by the Port Elizabeth International Airport is aimed at putting a smile on the faces of the children in South Africa. Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande has appealed for calm at higher education institutions, saying a decision on fees will only be made following a consultation process with various interested parties. Nzimande says students should know by the end of this month if there will be fee increases for next year or not.
