Beverage manufacturers are up against the proposed sugar tax. They say it's discriminatory and will impact negatively on the industry. The Beverages Association of South Africa says the move could reduce the industry's contribution to GDP by 14 billion rand. Tshepo Mongoai reports..

The Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Kebby Maphatsoe, has unreservedly apologized to the former Intelligence Minister, Ronnie Kasrils, for calling him a "traitor", "counter revolutionary" and an "enemy of the people". He has also retracted statements he made alleging that Kasrils was behind a conspiracy to discredit President Jacob Zuma by fabricating the rape case against him. Finance minister, Pravin Gordhan is expected to report to the Hawks tomorrow (thursday) regarding the investigation into a rogue unit at SARS. The unit was set up while Gordhan was still its head. Treasury's spokesperson, Phumza Macanda has confirmed that Gordhan was summoned. However, Hawks spokesperson, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi says he has no knowledge of this. ANC MP's have vowed that there will be no parliamentary inquiry into what is happening at the SABC. This follows calls from the DA that the situation in the public broadcaster needs to be investigated. The ANC says following the explanation from both the Communications Minister Faith Muthambi and the SABC, there is no need for an inquiry. Joseph Mosia reports

The DA has accused ANC members of the Portfolio Committee on Communications of having backtracked on their support of a proposed parliamentary inquiry into the SABC. DA MP Phumzile van Damme says it is clear that ANC MPs were pressured by Luthuli House. She says in so doing, they turned a blind eye to the rapidly degenerating state of affairs at the public broadcaster. Parliament is in full swing this week after two months' adjournment to allow MPS to campaign for the recent municipal elections. The parliamentary committee established to pick the next Public Protector is also expected to nominate the successful candidate from a list of five who have been shortlisted. Lawyers for the Marikana widows and other claimants, say they will now approach the courts to force the office of the President to move swiftly on talks around compensation. The legal team which has filed claims amounting to over a billion rands, wants the matter to be expedited. Last year, the presidency committed itself to compensate the women who lost their husbands during the Marikana shooting in 2012, and mine-workers who were shot and injured. But eight months down the line, the matter is still unresolved. Lucas Mothibedi reports

Newly-elected Tshwane metro executive mayor Solly Msimanga says EFF and ANC members are recruiting people to occupy vacant land in the municipality. This comes as people have occupied RDP houses in Nelmapius, near Mamelodi, and others are occupying vacant land near Ga-Rankuwa in the north. People occupying the pieces of land say they do so because they have nowhere to live. Meanwhile, another group in Ga-Rankuwa is taking city of Tshwane to court after they were removed from the land they illegally occupied. Sihle Nkhoma reports
