Transport Minister, Dipuo Peters, has been criticised after a letter was sent to the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa's board chairman, Popo Molefe, requesting an end to an investigation into irregular tenders at the parastatal. The investigation into PRASA followed several irregularities identified by the Auditor General and the Public Protector. Last year, Thuli Madonsela ordered an investigation into all PRASA's contracts worth more than 10-million rand that had been awarded since 2012.
