Co-operative Governance Minister Des Van Royen and eight traditional leaders in the Vuwani area have signed an agreement under which government will start the process of re-determining the new municipality that will be established in Vhembe's boundaries two weeks after next week's election. The chiefs, for their part, have undertaken to restore normality in Vuwani. A three-month protest by residents opposed to their inclusion in the municipality has seen some violence and a service shutdown. One of the community leaders, Nsobo Sambo however says they are not part of the agreement. Pimani Baloyi reports...

The DA in the North West has successfully appealed the decision by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to disqualify two of its ward candidates from contesting next week's local government elections. Zimbabwe president Robert Mugabe says the former liberation war fighters behind a communiqué which labelled him a dictator will be found and punished. President Mugabe was reacting for the first time since the war veterans association of which he is patron, blamed him for worsening economy and poor human rights record in that country. Thousands of party supporters including war veterans,collaborators and youth, gathered in Harare yesterday, to show support for the veteran leader. The national executive members who called him a dictator did not attend the meeting. This report by Shingai Nyoka....

Confusion remains regarding who the rightful beneficiaries of the newly-built RDP Houses in Marikana West, outside Rustenburg in the North West, are. Mining giant, Lonmin, has for the first time revealed details regarding an agreement between the Rustenburg municipality and community leaders. Currently, the houses have been illegally and forcefully occupied by residents, including mine-workers. Lonmin says no mine-worker can qualify for an RDP house. Axed SABC journalists are expected to report back to work this morning (thursday 28 July). This comes after the SABC announced that it will reinstate the seven dismissed news employees. This has been widely welcomed by organisations which have been opposed to the journalists dismissal and the SABC's decision not to show visuals of protests. Tshepo Phagane reports.

Government has offered to help residents of Tembisa on Gauteng's East Rand whose houses were damaged on Tuesday's tornado. About 400 people have been displaced and a number of properties damaged, including the Phumlani shopping mall, a filling station and section of the Tembisa hospital. Several people were treated for injuries. Gauteng Premier David Makhura and Ekurhuleni mayor Mondli Gungubele visited the area to assess the damage. Pearl Magubane reports.....

EFF leader Julius Malema has paid a visit to the tornado victims at Tembisa on the East Rand. Malema says he abandoned the community meeting that was scheduled there to avoid being labelled as opportunistic. However, he pledged help for those who lost their homes. Malema visited the East Rand on Wednesday calling for voters to give his 3-year-old party a chance. Senior Political Reporter Angela Bolowana reports...
