We now get the latest developments on the National Health Insurance (NHI) process. The NHI was introduced as a system that aims to unite public and private healthcare resources to ensure that everyone living in the country has access to the same standard of health care. Government's White Paper on NHI proposes a single, compulsory medical scheme for all. Critics though have pointed out that the NHI system would not work. John Kane-Berman a policy fellow at the South African Institute of Race Relations recently wrote that the system is not sustainable. A representative of a charity organization will today testify on behalf of the convicted Paralympian, Oscar Pistorius. The testimony will be Pistorius' last bid to convince the court to deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence of 15 years for murder. Pistorius is back in the Pretoria High Court after the Supreme Court of Appeal overturned his culpable homicide conviction last year, finding him guilty of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013. The son of former SABC news anchor and board member Hope Zinde, has been formally charged with her murder and possession of drugs. Mark Warona Zinde appeared briefly in the Brits Magistrate's Court in the North West yesterday. He was arrested at the weekend following the discovery of her mother's body in a car boot at her Pecanwood Estate home in Haartebeespoort, west of Pretoria..Phumzile Mlangeni reports.

The Congress of South African Trade Unions has given Mpumalanga's Lily Gold Mine management three days to recover the bodies of three mine workers. In February, the three workers were trapped underground when the container they wee working in, collapsed into a sinkhole. Recovery operations remain suspended at the mine, until it is safe to continue. The union marched to the mine to hand over a list of grievances to management. Motsebi wa Monareng reports
