ANC's Tshwane mayoral candidate, Thoko Didiza arrived to a tumultuous welcome in Stinkwater near Hammanskraal. Didiza accompanied by the incumbent mayor, Kgosientso Ramokgopa visited the family of Simon Modige who was gunned down outside the ANC's Branch Executive Commitee meeting at the Tshwane Events Centre two weeks ago. South Africa has recorded the highest number of political parties to contest local government elections. This was revealed by the independent electoral commission. Two hundred political parties and just over sixty one thousand candidates will be contesting the upcoming August third poll following the certification on Monday(27 June). As the season of initiation is upon us, a new trend has emerged whereby the owners of bogus initiation schools allegedly pay boys a fee to get them initiates. It is understood that in Orange Farm, south of Johannesburg, principals of these initiation schools, offer young boys R150 for each new recruit. There are also reports that these young recruits come home addicted to drugs. Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba has announced that the closing date for the Lesotho special permit applications has been extended by three months. The original closing date was scheduled for the end of this month.
