Government says it's working around the clock to contain on-going unrest in Tshwane. Tensions have been high in the capital city since Sunday following an announcement that ANC National Executive Committee member and National assembly chairperson Thoko Didiza has been selected as the Metro's mayoral candidate in the upcoming local government elections. Vehicles were torched and roads barricaded in townships such as Soshanguve, Mamelodi, Hammanskraal and Atteridgeville as well as Central Pretoria. That's despite repeated calls from regional, provincial and national leadership for calm in the area. Senior political journalist Amos Phago reports.

The chairperson of the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, says the violence and destruction of property that the country has witnessed in and around Tshwane is unacceptable and should not be allowed to continue. People deserted the Pretoria CBD yesterday as fears of more violence in the capital mounted. Supporters of the incumbent mayor, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, are demanding that he be the candidate for another term, after rejecting the ANC's decision to nominate Thoko Didiza as a mayoral candidate for the capital city. The funeral service of Radio and Television personality, Hope Zinde, will take place at the Hellenic Hall in Hatfield, east of Pretoria this morning (tuesday 21 June). Zinde was found murdered in the boot of her car at her Pecanwood Estate home in Hartebeespoort. Her 23-year old son, Warona Mark Zinde has been arrested in connection with the murder. Zinde will be buried at the Garsfontein cemetery, east of Pretoria. Maluti Obuseng reports
