African unity is under the spotlight today (wednesday 25 May) as the continent celebrates 53 years since the establishment of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU). A myriad of events are expected across the continent to commemorate Africa Day which represents the vision of the continent's founding fathers after having gained independence from their colonial masters. Life in most parts of Vuwani in Limpopo where schools have been torched is yet to return to normal. Learners who are still not back at school find different ways of passing the time. Teachers in volatile areas such as Masokona and Vyeboom have not returned to work, after receiving threats. This is despite the delivery of mobile classrooms to their schools. Retired deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke's work in the Constitutional Court, has been hailed and compared with many of his predecessors on the bench, who've given stature and credence to the judiciary. Many have praised him for keeping the highest standards and traditions of judicial excellence during his term in office, overseeing this country's journey to a worthy constitutional democracy. The Deputy Chief Justice delivered his last judgement on Friday last week, after serving the Constitutional Court for almost fifteen years. Judge Moseneke's been applauded for showing true allegiance to South Africa's Constitution.
