The families of two people drowned at Crossmoor outside Chatswoth south of Durban are still searching FOR the bodies of their loved ones. Four people drowned when they tried to cross the river on Friday night coming from a church service. The heavy rains also flooded houses in areas such as Isipingo, Lamontville and other areas around Durban. Meanwhile a railway track at Zwelethu in Umlazi south of Durban was also closed as a result of a mud slide caused by heavy rains. Cassandra Zungu compiled this report..

The South African Democratic Teachers Union is threatening to take Basic Education Department to court over its report into the jobs-for-cash scandal. The report, which was first supposed to be released in February, was to have been released on Friday last week, but was again delayed for a further two weeks. The task team was established to investigate allegations that Sadtu members were selling principal and deputy principal posts for up to 30 thousand and more at schools in the North West, the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Gauteng and Mpumalanga. Minister of State Security David Mahlobo has warned they will continue to arrest more people including chiefs, politicians and businessmen involved in criminal activities in Vuwani outside Thohoyandou. Twenty four schools, three municipal trucks and two houses were burnt during the protests in Vuwani in the past week. South Africans must learn the Constitution. This is the sentiment arising from a panel discussion hosted by the Thabo Mbeki Foundation. The discussion revolved around 20 years of the Constitution and the I am An African Speech. Panelists say there is a need to make the Constitution part of South Africans daily living. Communities in Vuwani and surrounding areas in Limpopo are starting to feel the impact of the shut-down. The local shopping complex is partly surrounded by police's razor wire, as angry protesting residents burn schools and infustructure. At some villages residents are forced to walk long distances to reach the main road to go and buy food at towns like Elim, Thohoyandou and Louis Trichardt. Some clinics are also not operating. This after the mine applied for business rescue a few weeks ago. Three workers remain trapped underground after a collapse three months ago. Gauteng's MEC's for Community Safety and Transport yesterday met with various taxi owners and traffic chiefs from across the province in an attempt to curb the ongoing road fatalities. This follows last Friday's incident on the R41 in Randfontein west of Johannesburg where 15 people were killed following a crash involving a taxi and a truck. Three people were also injured during a shootout between rival taxi organisations on Wednesday outside the newly opened Mall of Africa. Jacques Steenkamp reports.
