South Africa is experiencing a crippling drought situation and already, some parts of the country have been declared disaster areas. The unfavourable climate conditions are expected to persist for the next three years and result in South Africa receiving below average rainfall. This is the country's worst water shortages in 23 years, and has caused a decline in farming output that will lower its GDP and cause food-price increases. Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane has called for individual self-discipline by water users. Over 350 million rands has been set aside to address the drought problems in South Africa as over 11 thousand rural communities could face serious drought if there is no rainfall in the coming weeks and months. This was revealed by Water and Sanitation minister Nomvula Mokonyane at a media conference in Johannessburg about the extent of the water crisis in the country. Sanral gives another discount as motorists resist paying for e-tolls. Gauteng freeway users are getting a once-off discount which will see them being eligible for a 60 percent reduction on their e-toll debt. As part of the new e-toll dispensation, Sanral says motorists can now settle their debt within six months or make further payment arrangements. It has emerged that DA MP Dianne Kohler Barnard's fate was decided by way of voting through a secret ballot. But the DA would not reveal by how many votes. Some political parties in Parliament have also expressed mixed reaction to her dismissal. The DA Federal Executive terminated Kohler Barnard's membership on Friday. This comes after she was found guilty of misconduct for sharing a facebook post calling for the return of former Apartheid era state President PW Botha. IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi insists that his party still has a role to play in addressing persisting socio-economic challenges facing the country. This as the party is trying to rebuild itself ahead of the local government elections next year. Buthelezi says South Africa is burning under poor leadership. He was addressing hundreds of IFP supporters at the party's 40th anniversary celebration rally in Soweto, yesterday. The IFP was founded in 1975 and he has led it ever since.
