A Western Cape farm manager has contradicted allegations that a family has been rendered homeless by their eviction. This is contained in a response to a Constitutional Court petition for the Snyders family to be returned to the workers cottage on the farm. Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande says his department is to consider a proposal to regulate tertiary education fees. He was speaking on the sidelines of the Higher Education Transformation Summit in Durban. The recent ANC National General Council tasked the department with developing a regulatory framework to curb massive increases of fees at tertiary institutions. The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) says it's dealing with bureaucratic hurdles that are hampering plans for the construction of the world's largest hydro-power dam. The Grand Inga Dam is seen as key to resolving the continent's power shortages as it has the potential to provide electricity for most of Africa. The four children of a taxi driver who died in a bridge collapse in the Sandton area, north of Johannesburg, now face an uncertain future. Twenty-seven year-old Siyabonga Myeni, is one of the two people who died when a pedestrian bridge under construction on the Grayston Drive off-ramp collapsed on Wednesday afternoon. Twenty other people were injured, three of them critically. Both sides of the M1 highway in the area were re-opened to traffic yesterday afternoon after a 24-hour closure. Wisani Makhubele reports
