The embattled Oudtshoorn Municipality in the Little Karoo has once again seen a change in power...barely two months after the DA's take-over in July...and weeks after the municipality was placed under administration. The council was thrown into chaos last Friday after councillors of the NPP and a DA councillor sided with the ANC - giving them a majority. Motions of no-confidence were passed...and a new mayor, deputy mayor and speaker were elected. Following the shake up...former Mayor Gordon April is now once again Mayor. The NPP's John Stoffels who in July sided with the DA, has returned to supporting the ANC and retains his position as Deputy Mayor. And ICOSA's Vlancio Donson who was ousted as former Deputy Mayor, is now the speaker. Mlamli Maneli reports...

A Danish national has been remanded in custody in Bloemfontein in the Free State after police found female genitalia in his freezer. The 63-year-old man, Peter Frederiksen, faces five charges including sexual assault and removal of human organs. Police are also investigating possible cases against him in Lesotho and Denmark. Yesterday the minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga met with unions in the education sector, SADTU & Naptosa this as the debate on whether to administer the Annual National Assessments (ANAs) rages on. The pupils were supposed to take the Annual Assessments this week, while the unions want them to be postponed to February next year. The Congress of South Africa Trade Unions - COSATU - has called on workers to rally behind its campaign to put pressure on government and the private sector to create more jobs. Cosatu General Secretary Bheki Ntshalintshali addressed the KwaZulu-Natal Shopstewards Council at the Durban City Hall. The labour federation is mobilizing workers against retrenchments, proposed VAT increases and lack of efficient public transport - among other issues. Twins Sabelo and Samkelo Maisela, who were necklaced by Etwatwa residents near Daveyton on Gauteng's East Rand earlier this week, have been laid to rest. They are two of the three victims who were accused of being involved with the gang called OVL. The gang terrorised the community for months. Ditaba Tsotetsi compiled this report...

Learning and teaching has been disrupted at a farm school in Piet Retief in Mpumalanga since July, due to lack of scholar transport. About 190 learners at the Nokuthula Primary School were unable to attend classes because their transport was allegedly cancelled by the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport. A man suspected of being part of a notorious gang terrorising communities has been attacked and necklaced by angry residents of Etwatwa near Daveyton on Gauteng's East Rand. The man was saved by police and taken to hospital. The attack follows the deaths of three boys who had also been necklaced and killed earlier this week. Sashin Naidoo reports...

A Senior Researcher for West Africa in the Africa Conflict Prevention Programme at the Institute for Security Studies, David Zounmenou, says hat the military has no business to be involved in politics in Burkina Faso. This, following the military overthrow of the country's interim government on Wednesday, which saw both the interim president Michel Kafando and prime minister Isaac Zida briefly arrested. Following the coup, nervous citizens stayed at home and businesses were closed.
