Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to announce a breakthrough in the political and security impasse in Lesotho today. His office says says in a statement Ramaphosa will address an important news conference in Maseru today, flanked by leaders of political parties and Sadec representatives. Ramaphosa has been mediating on behalf of Sadec for more than two weeks, talking to political leaders. His latest efforts were nearly scuppered by a firefight between the army and police and the evacuation of government secretary Moahloli Mphaka from his home outside Maseru yesterday. Forensic report revealed that of the 67 bodies initially though to be South Africans, three are Zimbabwean nationals and one is from the DRC but they had left from South Africa. Inter-Ministerial Task Team handling the Nigerian disaster where 84 South Africans died is to send one specialised aircraft to repatriate the deceased once the identification process has been completed. Government spokesperson, Phumla Williams says as soon as all the bodies are identified, a team of 70 experts from the Military Health Service and the Department of Health will be ready to depart to Lagos with specialised equipment to transport the deceased. 62 of the 115 people who died in when TB Joshua's church guesthouse collapsed almost two weeks ago, have been positively identified as South African nationals.
