First Thing is First | Gauteng’s more than 15 million residents will by the end of the week have a new premier following the departure of David Makhura, who has been at the helm of the province since 2014.  The ANC in Gauteng has hand-picked its provincial chairperson, Panyaza Lesufi to take over from the outgoing Premier, David Makhura. Makhura resigned on Tuesday after 8 years of service.

Lesufi, who is also the education MEC, is expected to be elected Premier.

Now it's all eyes on Lesufi as he forms his new Cabinet. We take a look at Gauteng politics at a provincial scale and touch on the City of Johannesburg’s new developments

 Police Minister Bheki Cele is believed to be engaging the management of the Kruger National Park following the fatal shooting of a German tourist on Monday. Cele is expected to later visit the scene of the shooting in Masoyi betwene White River and Hazyview in Mpumalanga.  This as local residents have called on the law enforcement agencies to intensify security measures in the area as the attacks on tourists are prevalent. The ANC in Gauteng has hinted at a possible cabinet reshuffle for the province following the announcement of the party's premier elect, Panyaza Lesufi. Lesufi, the current MEC for Education in the province is set to replace outgoing premier David Makhura who tendered his resignation yesterday. ANC provincial secretary, Thembinkosi Nciza says Lesufi, once elected as premier, should be afforded the space to bring his own team to head up the provincial government.
