There seems to be a lot of confusion and protest around The N+2 rule which was introduced by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) in 2020.
In a nutshell means that students have an additional two years to complete their degree after which the scheme ceases to fund a student for longer than this period.
N+2 rule means students only have N+2 years to finish a degree. “N” is minimum number of years allocated to complete a qualification (i.e. record time). The “+2” refers to the extra two years that a student may need to complete the qualification (making the maximum time)
Student organisations, such as the South African Students Congress (Sasco), Economic Freedom Fighters Students Command (EFFSC) and many others, are against the N+2 rule.

Guest: Diane Parker, Deputy Director General Dpt Of Higher Education & Training
