  • This Morning On The Take Off We Chats To Nurina Ally, Executive Director Equal Education Law Centre
A fair number of parents are highly concerned about sending their children back to school at any point, But Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga is having none of it, and she delivered a fierce message to caregivers who are riddled with fear yesterday.
On Sunday the Department announced that the phased reopening of schools would be postponed to 8 June. Grade 7 and 12 pupils were expected back in the classroom on Monday.

    AVIATION UPDATE with Phuthego Mojapele,

Firstly what’s the latest coming out of SAA?
A report which was tabled in parliament recently showed that only 7% of black people are licensed aviators. What’s stopping transformation in the aviation sector?
What suggestions were put forward to change this?
Lastly remind us of the travel regulations during level 3 and will this be profitable for airlines?

    Background info:
Data provided by the Civil Aviation Authority shows that the vast majority of pilots in the country are white (89.2%).
By comparison, just 7.1% of pilots are black South Africans, while coloured and Indian pilots make up a combined 3%.
One suggestion was to reduce the fees for pilot training, which would make it more accessible to previously disadvantaged groups of people.
Pilots licence can be prohibitively expensive for ordinary South Africans and may act as a financial barrier for many black pilots looking to enter the aviation sector.
