The United National Transport Union (UNTU) says it is shocked that the Railway Safety Regulator's decision to revoke the safety permit of the Passenger Rail Agency PRASA is being challenged in court. The matter was brought by PRASA and will be heared in the high court in Pretoria on Thursday. The court had to provide temporary relief to PRASA after the regulator refused to issue a safety permit last week following an accident in Kempton Park on Friday. The regulator's decision would have affected 2 million train commuters. This is the second time since August this year, that the regulator has threatened not to issue PRASA with a permit due to serious safety concerns. Employees of the South African Social Security Agency SASSA that are affiliated to trade union NEHAWU will be taking to the streets on Wednesday. They say problems with the biometric system are presenting challenges for them especially in rural areas. The union's General-Secretary, Zola Saphetha addressed the media in Braamfontein, Johannesburg this morning.

Circumstances around the plane crash that killed two people in Midrand Johannesburg are still unclear. Police have opened an inquest docketafter a plane crashed into the backyard of a residence killing the pilot and a gardner who was working at the time. Aviation authorities are on the scene. Our reporter Jamaine Krige is there.

Political analyst Dr. Sithembele Mbete says she believes that president Cyril Ramaphosa should fire Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene. The minister has reporteedly requested the president to relieve him of his duties following public pressure over his testimony at the commission of inquiry into state capture at which he admitted to several meetings with the Gupta family. Some political parties have rejected his apology for previously failing to disclose that he had meetings with them at their Saxonwold home and their business premises in Midrand Johannesburg between 2009 and 2014, when he served as deputy minister and minister of finance respectively. Nene testified last week that he visited the Guptas six times at their home. He has previously denied having what he called engagements with them and told eNCA in May 2016 that he only "bumped" into them at government functions. In his apology, Nene says he owes South Africans conduct that is "beyond reproach" because of the faith the public places in him. Former Gauteng Hawks Head, Shadrack Sibiya has once again denied that he had any knowledge about the rendition of Zimbabwean nationals in 2010. Sibiya was speaking after charges against him and former Head of the Hawks, Anwar Dramat,were withdrwan by the state. Sibiya's advocate, George Baloyi, says the charges were provisionally withdrawn based on the representations they have made to the state. The charges against the third accused captain Lesley Maluleka, were however not withdrawn. He is now facing 16 charges of kidnapping, contravention of the immigration act and defeating the ends of justice. The case has been postponed to next month to allow Maluleka to also make representations why he should not be prosecuted.

The South African Council for Educators (SACE) has called on teachers to continue to develop their skills even after receiving their qualification. This comes as educators celebrate World Teachers' Day today under the theme "The right to education means the right to a qualified teacher". A report by the Centre for Development and Enterprises revealed last year that the Department of Basic Education has more than five thousand underqualified and unqualified teachers. These included those educators who only have a matric and the ones who received on-the-job training for less than three years. Many such educators entered the profession during the apartheid era. A study released earlier this year shows that only five of 22 teachers could pass basic English and Maths tests well.

The community of Ennerdale, south of Johannesburg says it will continue to protest until the government listens. There is a strong police presence in the area where residents are protesting against crime, drug dealings and gangsterism which are plaquing the community. Police are, once again, been accused of aiding criminals. Residents say they have been reporting these concerns to authorities but that nothing is being done. They have called on government to take their plight seriously. This is part of a series of protests by the so-called coloured communities in Gauteng and the Western Cape who say they are being marginalised. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to community leader Ingrid Jefferies.

Former SAfm presenter on Morning Talk, Rowena Baird, has passed away. Her sister, Michelle Baird, has confirmed that she died this morning after a long battle with colon cancer. Rowena started her broadcasting in the 1980s at Radio Bop in Mahikeng in the former Bophuthatswana, now North West. She spent time at a variety of radio stations over the years. They include Radio 2000, Channel Africa and Metro FM. Her sister Michelle has told Sakina Kamwendo that she will be missed.

Social Security Angency SASSA says its legal team is investigating whether Cash Paymaster Services, CPS, is violating the Constitutional Court ruling barring it from distributing social grants. This after community members in Limpopo and the Free State's rural villages reported that they still receive their money from the company. CPS, through its subsidiary Net1 Mobile, has been visiting villages in the Giyani area with mobile ATMs. However, the company denies contravening the court order, saying it is making banking services available in the areas. Pimani Baloyi investigated and SASSA speaks on the matter.
