The case against three former SARS officials has been postponed until June this year. They appeared in the Pretoria Magistrates Court today on charges of corruption and contravention of the RICA Act. These relate to the so-called rogue unit at the revenue service which was alleged to have taken part in illegal spying. Ivan Pillay, Johann van Loggerenberg and Andries van Rensburg were served with summonses last week.

Six inmates are still on the run after they escaped from Joburg Prison, also known as Sun City, in the early hours of this morning. The suspects were awaiting trial prisoners.

Five days since the VAT increase, some consumers are already feeling the pinch while others say they are coping. Government increased VAT which is charged on goods and services, from 14 to 15 percent on the 1st of April. The hike has resulted in an increase in general prices. Hilda Kasa reports

More than 100 residents of Brandwag flats in Bloemfontein have been left homeless after they were evicted from their flats. The eviction comes after their failed appeal at the Supreme Court of Appeal. The company which manages the block of flats got a court order for residents to be evicted so that it can start renovating the flats. Thabiso Radebe reports..

More dignitaries and prominent personalities continue to visit the home of the anti-Apartheid icon Winnie Madikizela-Mandela in Orlando Township in SOWETO. The fiery freedom fighter passed on Monday after short illness aged 81. President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared a special official funeral to honour the woman who became the face of anti-Apartheid resistance for a period spanning three decades. A three-day meeting of Southern African Development Community defence and security chiefs aimed at curbing rhino poaching is underway at the Kruger National Park. Former President Jacob Zuma has called on churches to pray for peaceful elections ahead of next year's general elections. Zuma joined the Covenant Fellowship Church International on the last day of the Easter Passover church service held in Esikhaleni outside Mpangeni on the northern KwaZulu-Natal. The multitudes of Zion Christian Church (ZCC) pilgrims and thousands of holiday-makers are back on the N1 south from Limpopo TODAY as the Easter weekend ends. The two ZCC churches, represented by the star or dove insignia, were in Moria for their respective Easter pilgrimages from Friday to YESTERDAY (sunday). The pilgrims, who started leaving last night, are sharing the roads with a throng of motorists who visited the province and neighbouring countries to celebrate the Easter holidays with their loved ones and families.
