Over 1 700 out of a total workforce of 1 812 mine workers at Evander Gold Mine in Mpumalanga will soon lose their jobs. As the majority Union in the mine, the National Union Mineworkers (NUM) says it is shocked by these retrenchments at the Pan African Resources owned mine. The union is now calling for what it calls real transformation in the mining industry which emphasises human development, not profits. The ANC's National Executive Committee on Sunday evening concluded the deployment of people to the party's sub-committees during its special meeting at Irene in Pretoria. More members, who include KZN"s Senzo Mchunu, have been deployed to Luthuli House on a permanent basis. ANC Secretary General Ace Magashule says the meeting didn't discuss the impending cabinet reshuffle nor the issue of the appointment of the deputy president. Izinduna in Gauteng say suggestions to do away with the Ingonyama Trust is an insult to Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini and the entire Zulu nation. They have threated to defend it and protect their land with all they have. IFP leader, Inkosi Mangosuthu Buthelezi recently raised the issue during the State of the Nation debate in parliament. Prosecutors involved in former president Jacob Zuma's corruption case have until Friday to finalize their decision as to whether or not to prosecute him. National Director of Public Prosecutions, Shaun Abrahams, gave prosecutors a Friday deadline to provide him with their recommendations on the long-standing matter. Zuma submitted his representations to the NPA last month as to why he should not be prosecuted. This follows a court ruling which set aside a 2009 decision by former acting NPA boss, Mokotedi Mpshe, to drop charges against him.
