The Association for Rural Advancement says it supports recommendations made by a parliamentary High-Level Panel that wants 3 million hectares of land owned by the Ingonyama Trust Board to be transferred to the state. The panel chaired by former president Kgalema Motlanthe found that the Ingonyama Act of 1994 must be repealed or amended because the majority of people on that land do not benefit from revenue generated by leases. In an unprecedented move, the presiding officers of Parliament have postponed this year's State of the Nation Address - that was scheduled for Thursday. National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete says they took the decision because of concerns about the developments surrounding SONA and possible disruption of the event as it has happened over the past four years. National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete has announced that the State of the Nation Address, which was due to be delivered on Thursday, has been postponed. She says parliament concluded that it was unlikely that the speech would take place without any disruptions. Mbete indicated that as Parliament was preparing to write to President Jacob Zuma to request the postponement of his address, he was also requesting a postponement. A group of Grade-12 learners at Pitso-Letlhogile school at Phaposane village outside Vryburg in the North West were allegedly forced to take contraceptives last week. The learners SABC spoke to say nurses came into the school and administered pregnancy tests. Those who were not pregnant were forcefully injected with a contraceptive that lasts for eight weeks. Those who tried to protest against the injection were told they either behave as grown-up women or they are hiding something. Sisi Segalo compiled this report...

ANC's National Working Committee has resolved to call for an urgent special NEC meeting on Wednesday, a day before the State of the Nation Address. This follows a meeting of the party's NWC with its top six officials discussing the future of President Jacob Zuma at Luthuli House last night. Zuma is reported to have declined requests for him to step down at another meeting that was help at residence, Mahlaba Ndlopfu in Pretoria on Sunday. Opposition parties have meanwhile been calling for the removal of Zuma before the State-of-the-Nation-Address scheduled on Thursday. The Public Servants Association (PSA) has expressed outrage saying they are shocked that an institution that is entangled in allegations of corruption and maladministration like ESKOM could be bailed out with worker's pensions. This follows yesterday's decision by the Public Investment Corporation (PIC) to help the beleaguered power utility with a R5 billion bridging facility.
