Gauteng residents are being warned NOT to send bottled water to drought stricken CapeTown. The Water and Sanitation Department says the charitable act will put Gauteng's own water supply at risk. Various Gauteng communities have been donating water bottles and tanks that will be sent to Cape Town which faces running out of water entirely by 16th April. Meanwhile organisations helping Gauteng residents collect water supplies have called on residents not to stop donating despite the warning. The first part of the Life Esidimeni arbitration hearings have come to an end. Next week legal arguments and the deliberations by the arbitrator will take place. 144 mental patients died when Gauteng Health Department decided to terminate the contract they had with Life Esidimeni and move patients to illegal NGO's. All Sibanye gold mineworkers who were trapped underground for more than a day following a power cut at the Sibanye Beatrix mine near Theunissen in the Free State have been rescued. The last group of almost a thousand miners were brought to surface just after 6 this morning. Earlier, angry family members of the trapped miners demanded answers. They claim the mine management has done little to inform them about the latest developments. At least 955 mineworkers have been trapped undergound since Wednesday evening following violent storm which caused power outage at four shafts.

Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has described the deaths of 144 mentally ill patients in the Life Esidimeni tragedy as one of the the most painful events in post-apartheid South Africa. Motsoaledi was overcome by emotions as he apologised to the affected families at the end of his testimony at the arbitration hearings in Parktown, Johannesburg yesterday. Gauteng Premier David Makhura and Health MEC Gwen Ramokgopa also apologised and committed to fix the health system during their testimony on Wednesday. Multichoice has announced that it will not be renewing its contract with news channel ANN7 when it expires in August this year. The announcement follows ICASA's confirmation that it is conducting an investigation into alleged payments made by Multichoice to the SABC and ANN7. The pay-TV provider faced criticism for questionable payments to the tune of 141-million rand annually to ANN7. Naledi Ngcobo reports

Eskom head of generation Matshela Koko says he's determined to clear his name. He's taken to Twitter, to confirm his suspension after receiving a letter with fresh charges last night. Last Friday Koko won a Labour Court application preventing Eskom from firing him. Since the new board took over about two weeks ago, several Eskom executives have resigned or are being suspended. Yesterday, Chief Information Officer, Sean Maritz, was suspended pending an investigation into his dealings with consulting firm McKinsey.

Communication Workers' Union (CWU), general-secretary Aubrey Tshabalala says pay TV giant MultiChoice's decision to dump ANN7 has a negative impact on staff of the 24-hour television news channel. MultiChoice announced yesterday that it would not renew ANN7's contract when it expired in August. The CWU, which represents more than half the employees at the channel formerly owned by the controversial Guptas, says there's anxiety among ANN7 employees. President Jacob Zuma's lawyers have confirmed that their client has met the National Prosecuting Authority's deadline and submitted representations on why he should not be prosecuted for fraud and corruption. They say the representations were made late last night. The representations were initially supposed to be submitted in November 2017, but National Director of Public Prosecutions Shaun Abrahams extended the deadline to January the 31st, 2018. A ruling of the Supreme Court of Appeal dismissed the application of Zuma and the NPA to appeal a high court ruling that the decision of the then NPA boss Mokotedi Mpshe to drop the corruption charges against him was irrational. Abraham has given prosecutors two weeks in which to consider Zuma's representations. Thereafter he will decide whether to proceed with charging Zuma or not.
