The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) and the department of Social Development have come under fire for asking the Constitutional Court for a six month extension of its contract with Cash Paymasters Services (CPS). This, after the court ruled in 2014 that the contract Sassa signed with CPS in 2012 was illegal and invalid. COSATU has called on minister Bathabile Dlamini to be released from her responsibilities with immediate effect.The department of Social Development and the agency were given until March 31, 2018 to find a new provider to administer the grants. Opposition parties in parliament are planning a meeting among themselves on Monday to discuss the possibility of bringing forward the date for the vote of no-confidence against President Jacob Zuma. Political analyst, Moeletsi Mbeki says if the ANC leadership followed what the Constitution of South Africa says about how to remove the President of the Republic of South Africa, it wouldn't have put itself in this current standoff. The Association for Rural Advancement says it supports recommendations made by a parliamentary High-Level Panel that wants 3 million hectares of land owned by the Ingonyama Trust Board to be transferred to the state. The panel chaired by former president Kgalema Motlanthe found that the Ingonyama Act of 1994 must be repealed or amended because the majority of people on that land do not benefit from revenue generated by leases. In an unprecedented move, the presiding officers of Parliament have postponed this year's State of the Nation Address - that was scheduled for Thursday. National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete says they took the decision because of concerns about the developments surrounding SONA and possible disruption of the event as it has happened over the past four years. National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete has announced that the State of the Nation Address, which was due to be delivered on Thursday, has been postponed. She says parliament concluded that it was unlikely that the speech would take place without any disruptions. Mbete indicated that as Parliament was preparing to write to President Jacob Zuma to request the postponement of his address, he was also requesting a postponement.
