ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa has directed two factions in the KwaZulu-Natal to set aside their differences and work together for the sake of unity in the organisation. Ramaphosa was speaking at the grave sites of both the late ANC President, Dr. John Langalibalele Dube at Ohlange outside Durban and of Inkosi Albert Luthuli at Groutville north of Durban. Five people have been arrested for failing to pay for services from the Johannesburg municipality. This follows a revenue collection blitz led by city mayor, Herman Mashaba. Reports of the eminent arrest of the sons of former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe are picking up steam. The reports first surfaced through an independent Zimbabwean newspaper citing corruption and illegal gold trading as some of the allegations levelled against the duo. This comes as current President Emmerson Mnangagwa's government embarks on a major corruption crackdown, which has already claimed some senior government officials.

The Tshwane University of Technology has given the assurance that it has put measures in place to deal with any eventualities. It says although it has places in some fields of study, it will not allow any walk-in application on its campuses. The university says students who wants to apply to study should do so online. The EFF has urged prospective students to turn up at higher institutions of their choice to register. Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the eulogy at Professor Keorapetse Kgositsile's funeral on the 16th. President Jacob Zuma has accorded him a special official funeral. In New York City on Saturday, friends and scholars of the late "Prof" Kgositsile gathered to commemorate his life through poetry. The family of a 14 year old boy who is still in hospital following a horrific train crash on Thursday says they are happy that all family members who were on the train are alive. Six members of the same family boarded the train from Theunissen town in the Free State. The Shosholoza Meyl train was travelling from Port Elizabeth to Gauteng when it collided with a truck at a level crossing between Hennenman and Kroonstad. Nineteen people died and more than hundred people were injured. The boy sustained multiple fractures. Aphumelele Mdlalane reports....

With just over a week before the start of the new school year on the 17th, 31-thousand Grade One and Eight applicants are yet to be placed in Gauteng schools. They include 14-thousand late applicants from a group of 22-thousand. The other 17-thousand applied on time, but have not accepted placement offers at their second or third choices because their first choice schools were full. Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi revealed this as he briefed the media on his department's readiness for the new school school year in Johannesburg (Sunday). Wisani Makhubele reports.
