Nontombi Gwam, the mother of a three year-old girl, Latoya, who died allegedly at Pastor Mboro's church last week is calling on the city of Ekurhuleni and government for assistance with travel costs to the Eastern Cape where the little girl is going to be laid to rest. The mother says she feel like she has been failed by both the police and the health department. She maintains that if there was no negligence from the paramedics and the clinic, her daughter's life would have been spared. Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga will announce the 2017 matric results in Auckland Park, Johannesburg on Thursday evening. The previous year's overall pass rate stood at 72-point-five percent. That was a one-point-eight percent improvement from 2015's 70-point-seven percent. In recent years, matric exams have been marred by incidents of paper leaks and group copying, however the 2017 exams were declared incident free. Hundreds of families in Gauteng have been affected after a storm ripped through parts of the province at the weekend. Two people died and dozens of homes and shacks were damaged - mainly in Johannesburg and on the West Rand. Part of Leratong Hospital on the West Rand was also damaged. The Gauteng government has erected tents in the worst-affected areas. Meanwhile relief organisation Gift of the Givers are on the ground assisting affected families.
