The International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS) declared 5 September as World Spinal Cord Injury day. This is the 2nd year that World SCI Day was celebrated worldwide. This year the theme is YES WE CAN and emphasises the fact that people with spinal cord injury after having received good quality rehabilitation, celeb the opportunity of playing sport, succeeding in employment, having successful relationships, driving vehicles, participate in art and culture activities and fulfilling a meaningful role in society. The Khomani San Nation who live in the Northern Cape have elected a new leader. Petrus Vaalbooi has been unanimously elected as the new Chief of the Khomani San following a gathering of all eight tribes. He will lead the eight families that make up the Khomani San. Relatives of the three family members who were killed at Loskop, near Estcourt, in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands, claim they are being targeted by police. Authorities have denied the allegations, saying an investigation uncovered illegal firearms at the residence. A police officer was also wounded during the shootout. Fanele Mhlongo compiled this report
