Police Minister Fikile Mbalula in hot water over reports that sporting goods supplier, Sedgars Sports, paid for at least half of his 680-thousand rand family trip to Dubai over the last New Year.

The SABC 8 want parliament to look into what they call reckless abandon the SABC has descended to. The group has written a letter to the chairperson of the portfolio committee on communications, Humphrey Maxegwana. One of the concerns raised in their letter is lack of political will to remedy the governance crisis at the public broadcaster. The group has also accused the Presidency of delaying the ratification of permanent board members. We speak to one of the members of the SABC 8, Thandeka Gqubule

Minister of Police Fikile Mbalula is the latest to be embroiled in allegations of corruption. According to media reports, the Minister allegedly took a trip to Dubai with his family, paid partly by a company that supplies uniforms to the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc). At the time of the trip, the Mbalula was the Minister of Sports. We tried to contact the Ministry for a comment, but have they not responded to our message. The official figure of the mentally-ill patients who died in the Life Esidimeni tragedy now stands at 118. Health Ombudsman Prof Malegapuru Makgoba revealed this during his testimony in the Life Esidimeni Arbitration which got underway in Parktown, Johannesburg on Monday. When he released his report in February this year, Makgoba said 94 patients had died, and that he was still counting. He was the state's first witness in the three-week long hearings chaired by retired Deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke. Wisani Makhubele has more.

The Executive Director of the African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes, Vasu Gounden, says South Africa is moving rapidly in the direction of civil war. He says failure to improve the lives of the majority of the country's people as well as the current political rhetoric threaten to plunge the country into the instability experienced by other countries, like Syria, South Sudan, Somalia and Rwanda. Gounden was delivering the seventh annual Desmond Tutu International Peace Lecture in Cape Town. Joseph Mosia reports.

The Lady Frere woman who had charges of murder and attempted murder against her withdrawn by the local magistrate's court in the Eastern Cape, says she is delighted. The NPA announced on Monday that it had declined to prosecute. The women rescued her daughter from three rapists, fatally stabbing a man and wounding two others . There was jubilation inside and outside court when the decision to drop the charges was announced. Lubabalo Dada reports

The Seventeenth Commission of Employment Equity report released recently highlighted the lack of progress in the transformation of South Africa’s workplace, but there has been little mention of disability in the commentary that has followed. Tendai Khumalo, MD of Qunu Workforce, a Workforce Holdings company, which provides disability solutions for corporates and government explains that while there is well defined legislation with specific percentages and incentives around the employment, training and support of people with disabilities in both the private and government sectors, the appetite to comply is extremely weak.

Heritage Month in Barberton, Mpumalanga will be celebrated in a different and a very exciting way. Musicians from different provinces will come to Barberton to showcase their talents, this, brought to the city by Southern African Disabled Musicians Association (SADMA). The concert will feature recorded disabled musicians in a concert to be held on Saturday 23 September at Barberton Town Hall. These musicians, although, disabled and disadvantaged felt it encumbered upon themselves to share their humble experience with other musicians who find themselves in the same position as they were. Abroad, yet another public figure - Chester Bennington – committed suicide earlier this year, following what seems to have been a long struggle with mental illness. This has raised many questions in our minds, most of them left unanswered. What would lead a child to suicide? Could we have prevented this?
