A two-year-old toddler from Bhamshela near Othongathi in northern KwaZulu-Natal has died after being bitten by a rabid dog. Nkosinathi Mzimela was playing with other children when the incident occurred. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in KwaZulu Natal has acknowledged that several cases of rabies have been reported in parts of the province. Hloniphile Fakazi reports.

The number of under-age children that were taken from North West villages to work on Free State farms as seasonal labourers now stands at 50. This was confirmed by the Department of Social Development in the North West when it welcomed 20 of them at children's centres in the province. This emerged at the end of the two-day BRICS leaders summit which was held at the Chinese south-east port city of XIAMEN. Held under the the theme "BRICS: Stronger Partnership for a Brighter Future,", the 9th BRICS summit brought together leaders from China, Russia, India, Brazil including President Jacob Zuma. President Jacob Zuma has condemned the continuing political killings in KwaZulu-Natal. This follows the death of former ANC Youth League secretary general, Sindiso Magaqa, on Monday. He succumbed to multiple wounds sustained when he was shot during an ambush in July this year. Speaking during a visit to the family, ANC NEC member Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said political killings in the province would only end when party members acted in accordance with their consciences. Dlamini-Zuma and the party's provincial chairperson, Sihle Zikalala, led a delegation to pay their respects to Magaqa's family. Vusi Makhosini reports
