Polls have opened in Kenya, in this year's hotly contested presidential elections. Over 19 Million eligible voters are casting their ballots in a tight race between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his political rival Raila Odinga. There are six other presidential candidates. There are mounting calls for Deputy Minister of Higher Education Mduduzi Manana to resign after he allegedly assaulted Mandisa Duma and her cousin at Cubana Lounge in Fourways, North of Johannesburg. Manana released a statement apologising for his actions saying he should have restrained himself despite extreme provocation. But civil organisations, political parties and social media have called for his head. Nomsa Mdhluli reports.

Authorities are warning motorists travelling in and around Soweto and Turfontein this morning to be cautious due to community protests. Its not clear what the protests are about but several roads have been blockaded. An assault case has been opened against Higher Education deputy minister Mduduzi Manana. Manana allegedly assaulted two women at a Johannesburg night club over the weekend. Eye witnesses say the Deputy Minister was sitting at the same table with the women when they were engaged in an argument.
