South Africa's constitutional democracy is under threat and constitutional accountability by government officials has been eroded. These were the words of The Board of Trustees of the Nelson Mandela Foundation as they added their views on the state of the country, during a media briefing yesterday evening. The Board of Trustees also lamented incidents of violence plaguing the country as well as what the Foundation calls the continued assault on the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.

As South Africans mark Child Protection Week, learners from four different schools in Lavender Hill in Cape Town are appealing for help, saying they are afraid to go to school due to on-going gang violence in the area. The principal of one of the schools - Hillwood Primary School - says he is concerned about his students' safety as gangs run amok in the area. Although Police have been deployed to the area, some learners are still concerned for their safety. On Monday, four people were reportedly gunned down in the area.

Maudi Lentsoane, group CEO at says the resignation by Thabo Dloti as CEO of South African insurer Liberty Holdings is a set back for transformation. Lentsoane says there is a need for 'Radical Executive Transformation' in South African businesses. Standard Bank corporate and investment banking CEO David Munro is taking over from Dloti.

The Sex Workers Education and Advocacy Taskforce (SWEAT) has reiterated its call for the legalisation of sex work in South Africa. They say crimes against sex workers go unreported and unpunished as sex work still remains illegal in the country. Pearl Magubane reports

The family of an Eskom employee whose body was found at her place of work - thirteen days after having been reported missing - suspect it was an inside job. Thembisile Yende was found dead inside her locked office. Yende was an electrician working at an Eskom sub-station in Springs on Gauteng's Eastrand. The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) wants South Africans to boycott all Zambian products. This in light of what they call authoritarianism and dictatorship of Zambian President Edgar Lungu. Last month the government of Lungu charged the leader of the opposition Hakainde Hichilema of treason for allegedly not giving way to a Presidential convoy.
