ANC stalwarts and veterans are calling for the party's MP's to table their own motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma in Parliament. This comes after the party's NEC decided not to recall Zuma this past weekend. The stalwarts say 'no member of the ANC who falls prey to the dictates of commercial and self-interest must be allowed to remain in Government in the name of or act on behalf of the ANC'.

Police in KwaZulu-Natal have spent the night trying to rescue foreign shop owners near KwaMashu hostel and surrounding areas north of Durban. This comes after some locals allegedly stormed into the foreign owned shops and looted them. The incident is allegedly to have been prompted by reports of learners who were kidnapped at their schools in KwaMashu. However, police in KwaZulu-Natal have dismissed the reports as unfounded. ANC NEC member Matthews Phosa has warned NEC members who are supporting President Jacob Zuma to stay in power that they are running a risk of people loosing confidence to the movement and the leadership. Delivering the O.R Tambo memorial Lecture at Sekakene village of Botlokwa outside Polokwane in Limpopo, Phosa reitereted calls for Zuma to resign. Phosa says NEC members who are supporting Zuma should just resign with him and leave those who have the interest of the party at heart to remain and rebuild the ANC. President Jacob Zuma is reported to have survived a motion of no-confidence in him at an ANC National Executive Committee meeting in Irene outside Pretoria. This is the second time he has survived the motion in six months. Zuma is facing mounting pressure within the ANC as well as from opposition parties and civil society to step down. A third suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of Hannah Cornelius, a student from the University of Stellenbosch, who was allegedly killed during a hijacking. The 21-year-old's body was found on the side of the road after the vehicle she was travelling in with a friend was hijacked. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Lynne Arendse reports

A week search for a 20 year-old woman with albinism has resulted in the gruesome discovery of her body. The body of Asanda Mbuyazi was found stripped naked in the bushes near her home at Ndlabeyilandula, in KwaMbonambi near Richards Bay on the KwaZulu-Natal. Her body had multiple stab wounds. Mbuyazi was reported missing last Sunday and was found last night by police. She was last seen with her boyfriend who is said to be the father of their five-month old baby. Police are looking for the boyfriend who has since fled from his home, not far from Mbuyazi's homestead. Vusi Khumalo reports

Minister for Defence and Military Veterans Nosiviwe Maphisa-Nqakula says they are finding it increasingly difficult to fulfill their mandate because of continuous budget cuts. She says the budget of her departments has been decreasing by five percent per annum over the past 20 years. She says for them to achieve the goals set in the Defence Review, they need the budget to increase to at least two percent of GDP over time. Plans are underway to reopen the Lily gold mine near Barberton in Mpumalanga. Vantage Goldfields, which owns the Lily Gold Mine, has merged with another mining company enhancing prospects of re-opening the mine. Lily Gold Mine remains shut, following a massive landfall that trapped three workers underground. Their bodies have not been recovered.
