"Fake news" has been defined as deliberate online misinformation campaigns. Parliament has heard how the Knysna Municipality in the Western Cape has been plagued by corruption, maladministration and tender irregularities. This was revealed by a Knysna resident and activist, Mike Hampton, who petitioned the NCOP's Select Committee on Petitions and Executive Undertakings in Parliament. The Independent Electoral Commission is this morning expected to announce the results of the by-elections in Nquthu, KZN. The Commission says the by-election voting process has gone smoothly. The KZN government dissolved the council in February after it failed to elect its leaders, including the mayor and speaker, following last August's local government elections.
