Sakina Kamwendo speaks to Molefe Makete one of the survivors of the Sharpeville Massacre. On the 21st of March 1960, more than 50 black people were killed when police opened fire on a peaceful protest in Sharpeville. Makete says men, women and children had to flea as law enforcement officers started shooting at a crowd of about 5,000 people crowd outside the police station. The crowds had gathered at Sharpeville police station to protest against the pass laws, which they claim are designed by an apartheid government to seriously restrict their movement in white areas. Mr Makete is a PAC member and one of the leaders and survivors of the 1960 Sharpeville Massacre. He spent more than 20 years in Robben Island

It's all systems go for the Human Rights Day celebrations at the Victoria Grounds in King William's Town in the Eastern Cape. The venue is significant as it was where the funeral service for the Black Consciousness Movement leader, Steve Biko, was held 40 years ago. President Jacob Zuma will deliver a keynote address at the ceremony, as Makhaya Komisa reports.

South Africans have welcomed the Constitutional Court's ruling on Friday, to extend the contract of Cash Paymaster Services for the next 12 months. This will ensure that beneficiaries will receive their grants on the 1st of April. The Court ruled that the contract be extended under the same terms and conditions, and with strict supervision. Calls have now been made for a process to be immediately initiated to ensure that stakeholders fully comply with the directives of the Constitutional Court, and the prescripts of the law. The African National Congress has also called on government to investigate thoroughly and act decisively, against those responsible for what the party calls an 'embarrassing and undesirable situation. Parliament is the latest institution to add its weight to the long list of voices condemning the break-in at the human resources wing of the Office of the Chief Justice in Midrand this past weekend. 15 computers containing sensitive information were stolen. The computers contain information about the country's judges, among other things. The incident came just one day after the Constitutional Court ruled in the social grants matter - severely criticising Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini and SASSA for their handling of the crisis. Today, the lawyer representing the Minister of Police Nathi Nhleko, will file for an appeal against the decision to have the appointment of Berning Ntlemeza as Head of the Hawks set aside. This follows a ruling on Friday by the High Court in Pretoria which found that the appointment of Ntlemeza by the Minister was unlawful. Judge David Mabuse ruled that when the Minister appointed Ntlemeza, he ignored 2 court judgments which found that Ntlemeza lacked integrity and honesty. ANC secretary-general, Gwede Mantashe, says the ruling party is heading for a possible split ahead of the national conference in December if factional tendencies are not quickly dealt with. He says it is important for provinces to unite at conferences, to avoid people being paid by individuals to swing votes. Mantashe addressed the ANC cadre forum at Port Alfred in the Eastern Cape.
