Happy daze! I’m off to the coast (to work as much as play / it aint no holiday!) so we have demob fever here at the Radio Clash Bunker, so much so we left a new mashup show to keep you company while I’m away.

Podcast 350 is finally here and it’s slightly listing because it’s the much threatened show of list songs! 23 tracks and you won’t believe #22! This is first of a 2-part series – both parts are recorded, and even just recorded 352. So I’m well ahead but I have been fighting the apathy caused by nice weather and drama. so who knows when I will edit and release those.

It’s coming home, coming home, Delta’s coming home….

As England are in the Euro final (something that was days away from when I recorded this last Saturday), I break my rule about always releasing a podcast at 9am on a weekday and release it on a Saturday as I think this needs to be out there beforehand.

Although the title and theme was there WELL before all of that, it seems to have come uncannily appropriate as we prepare to unlock with Delta cases rising and now New Lambda Variant! Washes whiter!

So I have a real feeling of bread and circuses going on as we walk blindly into a 3rd Wave and what feels like Herd Immunity strategy by the back door….and indeed Wayne Couzens, the PC who killed Sarah Everard has now admitted that after talking about that case and playing LOUD WOMEN on this podcast (no it was nothing to do with me, but spooky timing).

So excuse me if I don’t really get excited about teh sportsball, I’m more worried about the state of the nation….and a bit ranty in places.

This one took a while to edit (a week and a half?) and is a Pride themed podcast with LGBTQ mashup artists and themes running throughout. Happy Pride!

Also we say goodbye to a mashup artist, go very Crumplstrange in preparation for Crumplstock 9 later this month, and tracks from the three albums I reviewed here.

The prejudice part is harder to explain, mostly re; a mashup community beef that now seems mostly settled but there aint half have been some DRAMA in the mashup community recently?

Also personally on non-mashup forums been seeing a rise in general intolerance especially to trans folx from the TERF and the right-wing Straight Pride lot (you can see their laughable flag as part of the graphics above, as well as someone burning a Pride flag in real life a few years ago).

It’s like they feel emoldened this year and this Pride is weird, it feels like there are rainbows everywhere but less actual support? The allies need to step up, because a lot of stuff is being ignored and left to us LGBTQ* to deal with, and that’s not cool, or even possible.

But anyway, this podcast is more party than party political, but since Pride is both, we don’t shy away from the harder stuff.

A Long time coming, and recorded last month, here’s the ambient chilled mashup podcast mentioned in 344 – and in fact is a sequel to 344, as it’s the part of the same podcast really!

From 1975 to 2021, we have plunderphonics, blends, mashups, bastard pop and various sampleage plundering synthwave, electronica, rock, dub, reggae, hip-hop, 50’s spoken word, soundtracks and film, neo kosmiche, musicals, pop, indie, new age, soul, industrial, indie and avant garde music. Something from everyone!

The theme is cities, and light vs darkness…one of my accidental themes, subconcious that arrives as I put a show together.

Second part of How To Survive A Plague, and we cover the period 1989-2000 and beyond as the fight for drugs, money and action for the AIDS crisis comes to a crunch, and as Hollywood starts to pay attention (although no straight Oscar-baiting tragic gay tropes here – Peter’s Friends/Philadelphia *cough*).

It’s not all doom as the light on the horizon from the plague was combination therapy – which sadly came too late for some. And Act Up & the Lesbian Avengers and many other groups, actors, musicians and artists came to show that HIV was the unwanted guest at their loud and proud protest party. Fists in the air, die-ins, funerals as defiant protest even at the White House as security wrestles people with AIDS to the ground as they try and spread the ashes of their loved ones…Red Hot & Riot! FIGHT!

Defiant, angry, queer and very much here and in your face. They were not going down without a fight, and we should celebrate and remember them – as well as those who also bravely put their bodies on the firing line of medical research so that others could live. Like the many thousands of volunteers for the COVID virus trials last year they didn’t know what would happen but knew that something needed to be done. The plague needed to be fought.

And this part is a personal reaction to the last pandemic as I come into the picture on the scene in the mid 90’s, and what I witnessed and people I lost. Not really sure who will find this useful, it is a podcast I had to make to make sense of what I experienced in the last year and also in the 90’s and beyond.

Following on from the events of Saturday before last in Clapham Common with the Metropolitan Police attack on the Sarah Everard vigil (a police officer has been charged with her killing, so a very bad move), I hoist the podcast as a sign in support of 97% and join in the chant of We Will Not Be Silenced and Shame On You.

It was always meant to be an episode with jungle and punk, so the theme of justice and the angry political parts fit in well – but there is also brass covers, soul, shoegaze, post-rock, electronica, folk metal and alternative folk, indie, reggae, classical remixes, 8-bit chip ambience and Sound of Music covers.
