    १९५० च्या दशकाच्या मध्यापासून अन्नधान्याच्या टंचाईच्या समस्येने गंभीर वळण घेतल्याच्या पार्श्वभूमीवर, १९६० पासून शेतीतील बहुविध समस्याचं एकत्रितपणे निवारण करणारा कार्यक्रम केंद्र सरकारने हाती घेतला आणि १९६५ पासून पुढे त्याचे सकारात्मक परिणाम दिसून येऊ लागले. या कार्यक्रमाच्या यशस्वीतेमुळे त्याद्वारे भारतात १९६५ पासून हरित क्रांतीला सुरुवात झाल्याचं मानलं जातं. भारताला स्वातंत्र्याआधी व नंतरही अन्नधान्याच्या टंचाईने ग्रासलेलं होतं. सातत्याने पडत असलेले दुष्काळ, अपुऱ्या सिंचनसोयी, कमी उत्पादन देणारी बी-बियाणं आणि वाढती लोकसंख्या यांमुळे भारतापुढे सातत्याने अन्नसमस्या उभी ठाकलेली होती. ही समस्या १९५६ मध्ये एवढी गंभीर बनली की, अमेरिकेसोबत करार करून मोठ्या प्रमाणावर धान्य आयात करण्याची वेळ भारतावर आली. मात्र १९६० नंतर देशातल्या निरनिराळ्या भागांतील सोळा निवडक जिल्ह्यांत शेती विकासाचा एक कार्यक्रम हाती घेण्यात आला आणि सुधारित बी बियाणांचा व पुरेशा रासायनिक खतांचा वापर करत रोपट्यांचं संरक्षण करण्याच्या दृष्टीने उपाययोजना करण्याचं ठरवलं गेलं.

  • Vyakti Vishesh : Today's Personality Hridaynath Mangeshkar and Vaikunthbhai Mehta.

    Informative session about the important personality. Hridaynath Mangeshkar is an Indian music director. He is the only  son of musician Deenanath Mangeshkar and younger brother of Lata  Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. He is popularly known as Balasaheb in the  music and film industry. He is also the first Indian composer to compose and release two entire albums featuring the poems and songs of the poet-saint Meera, titled Chala Vahi Des and Meera Bhajans. He has recently also composed and released an album titled Meera Soor Kabeera, featuring the works of Meera, Kabir and Surdas. He produced an album featuring the ghazals of Ghalib, titled Ghalib and sung by Lata Mangeshkar.  His collaborations with noted Marathi poets such as Shanta Shelke and  Suresh Bhat have produced many Marathi classic songs of unmatched  popularity.

    Vaikunthbhai Mehta was a pioneer leader of Indian Cooperative  Movement. Vaikunthbhai was born at Bhavnagar in Gujarat. Vaikunthbhai  served the Bombay State Cooperative Bank, now Maharashtra State  Cooperative Bank as Chief Executive for an uninterrupted period of about  35 years. He was the Minister of Finance and Cooperation of the then Bombay State  and was the first Chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Commission.

    १९६२च्या भारत-चीन युद्धानंतर सुमारे ३ वर्षांतच म्हणजे १ सप्टेंबर, १९६५ रोजी स्वातंत्र्योत्तर काळातील पहिल्या भारत-पाक युद्धाला तोंड फुटलं. संयुक्त राष्ट्राच्या मध्यस्थीनंतर २२ ऑक्टोबर, १९६५ रोजी उभयपक्षी युद्धबंदी घोषित होईपर्यंत म्हणजे सुमारे पावणेदोन महिने काश्मीर व कच्छच्या सीमेवर हे युद्ध सुरू राहिलं पुढे १० जानेवारी, १९६६ रोजी सोव्हिएत रशियाचे पंतप्रधान कोसीजीन यांच्या उपस्थितीत भारताचे पंतप्रधान लालबहादूर शास्त्री आणि पाकिस्तानचे अध्यक्ष अयूब खान यांच्यात सोव्हिएत रशियातील ताश्कंद इथे काश्मीर प्रश्न शांततापूर्ण मार्गाने सोडवण्यासह इतर उ अनेक उभयपक्षी करार होऊन शांतता प्रस्थापित झाली. हाच करार 'ताश्कंद करार' म्हणून प्रसिद्ध आहे. हा करार केल्यावर त्याच दिवशी मध्यरात्री लालबहादूर शास्त्री यांचं हृदयविकाराच्या तीव्र झटक्यानं निधन झालं. संपूर्ण भारत शास्त्रीजींच्या अकाली मृत्यूमुळे हळहळला.

  • Vyakti Vishesh : Today's Personality Sant Dnyaneshwar, Pablo Picasso and Darashaw Nosherwan Wadia.

    Informative session about the important personality. Sant Dnyaneshwar, also referred to as Jnaneshwar, Jnanadeva,  Dnyandev or Mauli or Dnyaneshwar Vitthal Kulkarni was a 13th-century  Indian Marathi saint, poet, philosopher and yogi of the Nath Vaishnava  tradition. In his short life of 21 years, he authored Dnyaneshwari and  Amrutanubhav. These are the oldest surviving literary works in the Marathi language, under the patronage of the Yadava dynasty of Devagiri, and these are considered to be milestones in Marathi literature. Sant Dnyaneshwar's ideas reflect the non-dualistic Advaita Vedanta philosophy and an emphasis on Yoga and oneness of Vishnu and Shiva. His legacy inspired saint-poets such as Eknath and Tukaram, and he is one of the founders of the Varkari (Vithoba-Krishna) Bhakti movement tradition of Hinduism in Maharashtra. Saint Dnyaneshwar disappeared in 1296.

    Pablo Ruiz Picasso was a Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker,  ceramicist and theatre designer who spent most of his adult life in  France. Regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, he is known for co-founding the Cubist movement, the invention of constructed sculpture, the co-invention of collage, and for the wide variety of styles that he helped develop and explore. Among his most famous works are the proto-Cubist Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907), and Guernica (1937), a dramatic portrayal of the bombing of Guernica by German and Italian air forces during the Spanish Civil War.

    Darashaw Nosherwan Wadia FRS was a pioneering geologist in India  and among the first Indian scientists to work in the Geological Survey  of India. He is remembered for his work on the stratigraphy of the  Himalayas. He helped establish geological studies and investigations in India,  specifically at the Institute of Himalayan Geology, which was renamed in  1976 after him as the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology. His textbook on the Geology of India, first published in 1919, continues to be in use.

Ashok Mehta was a noted national film award-winning Indian film  cinematographer, known for films such as Bandit Queen, 36 Chowringhee  Lane and Utsav. He won the National Film Award for Best Cinematography  twice, 36 Chowringhee Lane and Moksha, the latter he also directed. He worked both with directors of mainstream Bollywood, like Subhash Ghai (Ram Lakhan (1989), Saudagar (1991)) and Rajiv Rai (Gupt (1997)), Mukul Anand (Trimurti (1995)), as well as parallel cinema directors, like Shyam Benegal (Trikaal (1985), Mandi (1983)), Aparna Sen (36 Chowringhee Lane (1981), Paroma (1984)). He also worked on films, including Shekhar Kapoor's Bandit Queen (1994), Girish Karnad's Utsav (1984), Gulzar's Ijaazat (1987) and MF Hussain's Gaja Gamini (2000).

    Lakshmi Sahgal was a revolutionary of the Indian independence  movement, an officer of the Indian National Army, and the Minister of  Women's Affairs in the Azad Hind government. Lakshmi is commonly  referred to in India as Captain Lakshmi, a reference to her rank when  taken prisoner in Burma during the Second World War. In 1998, Sahgal was awarded the Padma Vibhushan by Indian president K. R. Narayanan. In 2010, she was bestowed with honorary doctorate by University of Calicut.

    Rafi Ahmed Kidwai was a politician, an Indian independence  activist and a socialist, sometimes described as an Islamic socialist.  He hailed from Barabanki District of United Provinces, now Uttar  Pradesh, in north India.
