  • Iran attacks three ships trying to get through the Strait of Hormuz

Iran says it has captured two container ships seeking to exit the Gulf via the Strait of Hormuz.

It's Iran's first seizure of vessels since the war began in February. A third vessel was also fired upon. Montenegro's minister of maritime affairs says the Panama-flagged MSC Francesca was one of the ships captured and that the crew are safe - including four Montenegrin seafarers.

As the Strait remains effectively closed, vessels are being tracked by what is known as the Automatic Identification System or AIS.

  • 'Unfortunately necessary' - Professor Allan Fels on NDIS changes

It's been described as the biggest reform for the disability sector since the start of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

The Federal Government yesterday unveiled its planned changes, in a bid to rein in costs, crack down on fraud and maintain the scheme's social licence.

The changes also mark a move away from diagnosis-based eligibility with about about 160-thousand people expected to be removed from the scheme by 2030.

We dive into this with one of the original architects of the scheme, and Greens NDIS Minister, Jordon Steele-John.

In the Middle East, US President Donald Trump has announced a ceasefire between the US and Iran, hours before it was set to expire - you'll get the latest on a rapidly evolving situation.

  • eSafety commission sends transparency notices to gaming platforms

After taking on social media platforms last year, Australian authorities are now going after popular online gaming platforms over unsafe content.

The eSafety Commission has issued transparency notices to Roblox, Minecraft, Fortnite and Steam, over concerns they're being used by sexual predators to groom children as well as extremist groups to spread propaganda and radicalise young Australians.

The legally enforceable notice is a 'please explain' to the companies on how they're identifying, preventing and responding to harms with penalties for non-compliance of up to almost $50 million per breach.

  • Government back down on aged care support

The government has announced changes to the Support at Home aged care program.

It's decided to dump a controversial co-payment from October, which saw some people pay $50 an hour for basic support such as showering, dressing and continence care.

  • 'People are disgusted' - Greens warn against cuts to the NDIS

Health Minister Mark Butler is expected to announce measures to curb the growing cost of the scheme later today.

The NDIS is set to cost more than 50 billion dollars this financial year and it's expected to cost a hundred billion dollars a year by 2036, if the pace of its growth cannot be slowed.

But Greens Senator Jordon Steele-John says people in the disability community are 'disgusted' that their supports and services may be cut.

The federal government is expected to announce significant changes today to the National Disability Insurance Scheme to address spiralling costs.

The NDIS is set to cost more than 50 billion dollars this financial year and it's expected to cost a hundred billion dollars a year by 2036, if the pace of its growth cannot be slowed.

So, where will the savings come from?

  • What does the Iran war mean for China?

The US President Donald Trump says he will hold off attacking Iran until Tehran's negotiating teams come up with a unified proposal for a peace agreement.

In a social media post, Mr Trump says he will extend a ceasefire until the Iranians submit a proposal.

Meanwhile, the Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

The President made the comments in a phone call this week with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince - in the wake of the US navy seizing an Iranian cargo ship near the Strait on Monday.

The US has credited China with getting both sides to the table at the last round of peace talks in Pakistan.
