  • Breakfast Wrap: New Premier calls royal commission

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan is out and the state has a new leader pledging to crack down on alleged corruption in the construction sector.

New Premier Ben Carroll, who was unanimously voted in by the Labor caucus, said his first action would be to call a royal commission into the construction sector promising to do things "differently" from his predecessors.

We hear from former Victorian Labor Premier Steve Bracks, also the ex-commissioner of the state's anti-corruption watchdog Robert Redlich KC.

And we'll finish in Washington DC as the US President meets with the Israeli Prime Minister on Iran.

Recap the morning's news, politics and global affairs with the Breakfast Wrap.

It's inspired a movement to find the unmarked graves of World War I diggers tracking down surviving family members and providing headstones that recognise their service.

  • Steve Bracks backs new Victorian Premier Ben Carroll

Premier Jacinta Allan has been forced out of the top job - just four months out from the state election. New Premier Ben Carroll - who was unanimously voted in by the Labor caucus - said his first action would be to call a royal commission into the construction sector promising to do things "differently" from his predecessors.

  • Israel mourns loss of powerful ally in Congress

With both the Ukrainian President and the Israeli Prime Minister attending the late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham's funeral, its clear the extent to which these two US partners have lost a strong supporter in Congress.

In particular, Lindsey Graham's death leaves Israel without one of its greatest political allies who pushed for maximum US support at a time when more US adults are viewing Israel unfavourably.
