The alleged ringleader of a major cocaine distribution network involving Penn State students and fraternity houses has surrendered to authorities. State officials report twenty-four-year-old Agostino Abbatiello was arraigned Tuesday and denied bail on multiple felony charges, including corrupt organizations and drug trafficking. Investigators say Abbatiello was one of the primary suppliers bringing large quantities of cocaine into State College to be packaged and sold to students.

In local transit news, state police have cited two semi-truck drivers following an Interstate Eighty collision near Exit forty-two in Scrubgrass Township. Investigators say twenty-four-year-old Benjamin Doehr was charged with careless driving after reaching for a water bottle and striking a slow-moving semi-truck driven by thirty-four-year-old Rajan Sharma. Sharma was also cited for driving well below the speed limit without hazard lights. Both drivers escaped injury.

And State Police in Clarion are investigating a retail theft at the local Walmart in Monroe Township. Authorities report a fifty-one-year-old Sligo man is accused of stealing nearly two hundred dollars in merchandise, including a watch and a electronic doorbell.

A Crawford County judge has ruled that the prosecution of a former Hayfield Township man who confessed to killing his wife nearly forty-five years ago will move forward. President Judge John Spataro denied a petition to dismiss charges against seventy-seven-year-old Clinton "Bud" Rogers, ruling that circumstantial evidence supports homicide charges in the nineteen-eighty-one disappearance and death of his wife, Lonene.

In another major court update out of Meadville, former long-time local pastor Timothy Solomon has been sentenced to six months in jail, followed by six months of house arrest and four years of probation, after pleading guilty to felony child pornography charges. The sixty-nine-year-old will also be required to register as a Tier One sex offender for fifteen years.

And State Police in Franklin have released details on a two-truck crash along Interstate Eighty West in Venango County. Investigators say an Ohio driver reaching for a water bottle struck another semi-truck traveling well below the speed limit without hazard lights near Exit forty-two in Scrubgrass Township. Both drivers escaped injury, but both face traffic citations.

A twenty-year-old New Castle man who previously ran for the state House and local school board is in federal custody on child pornography charges. Federal agents arrested Justin Marshall Byers on Tuesday following a joint investigation by the F-B-I and Lawrence County authorities, charging him with federal counts of possessing material depicting the sexual exploitation of minors. Byers is currently being held in Pittsburgh pending a detention hearing this Friday.

In local government news, New Castle City Council is considering a crackdown on clothing and shoe drop-off boxes across the city. Council members say while the bins are intended for donations, many lack owner contact information and have become major eyesores overflowing with trash, old furniture, and abandoned electronics. City officials are now drafting an ordinance to heavily regulate or ban the boxes.

And an arrest warrant has been issued for a sixty-year-old South Side woman accused of hitting a child on a bicycle and fleeing the scene.
