We’re shining the spotlight on our sound engineer extraordinaire, Howard Steele. Back in January 1977, Howard had not one, but two Top Ten hits—Leo Sayer’s “You Make Me Feel Like Dancing” at #1 and Burton Cummings’ (Guess Who) “Stand Tall” at #10.
Howard shares some fantastic stories in this episode:
✨ How a nosy neighbor’s complaint led him and Richard Perry to create the legendary Studio 55.
✨ Getting the call from Richard—“We’re recording Manhattan Transfer, with Jim Keltner and Ringo Starr on dual drums.” His reaction? “Way cool!”
✨ The unforgettable moment when Richard called him up to the front desk… and handed him his very first Gold Record.
Come listen as Howard takes us back to his incredible Top Ten days!
And a big shoutout to the Self Storage Association on its fabulous 50th Anniversary Show—a Las Vegas–style celebration done right. 👏
🎉 Part Two with Jenny Portman is Live! 🎉
We couldn’t get enough of Jenny the first time, so we brought her back! President of Universal Insurance Programs, Jenny is not only a sharp business mind but also one of the most fun guests we’ve had on Live Conversation. Her energy, insight, and her “Jenny’s Jewels” playlist remind us that powerhouse leaders can also be total rockstars at heart. 💎🎶
And that’s not all — this week we also took a trip through music history with a special show on the legends of Laurel Canyon 🌴🎸. These were the musicians who lived, loved, and collaborated to create some of the greatest rock ever: The Eagles, The Monkees, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Frank Zappa, The Mamas and the Papas, James Taylor, The Byrds, Canned Heat, The Doors, Carly Simon, and so many more.
👉Check the link below for Part Two with Jenny AND a magical musical tour of Laurel Canyon — now live at Radio Wilder!

🎶 This Week on Radio Wilder! 🎶
The Polish Prince himself — Bobby Vinton — turned 90 this year! We’re honoring him under the big top with his timeless hit “Mr. Lonely.” What a voice… and fun fact: Bobby had the last #1 hit before the Beatles era!
Here’s a taste of what else is spinning:
🎸 Social Distortion – “Far Behind” kicks things off
🚂 Grand Funk Railroad bringing the heat
🐶 The Beatles – “Hey Bulldog,” one of their underrated gems
🔥 The McCoys – one of the sexiest tracks ever, “I Got to Go Back and Watch That Little Girl”
🌶️ Fresh sounds from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Taj Mahal & Ry Cooder
☀️ Chuck Prophet makes his debut with “Summertime Thing”
✨ Plus, a Deuces Covers segment you don’t want to miss: Marvin Gaye & Dusty Springfield both belting out “Can I Get a Witness.” Fun tie-in: our own sound engineer legend Howard Steele once recorded Dusty at the iconic Studio 55!
And don’t forget… the Self Storage Association 50th Anniversary Show is almost here! 🎉 On Sept. 3rd at Allegiant Stadium (home of the Las Vegas Raiders), Darius Rucker of Hootie & the Blowfish will be lighting up the stage. It’s going to be unforgettable!
🎧 Tune in, turn it up, and let’s ride the Wilder waves together
Live Conversation Spotlight: THE Jenny Bortman!
On the first Saturday in August, we went live with the one and only Jenny Bortman, CIC — a dynamo, a blast to hang out with, and a business powerhouse. As President of Universal Insurance Programs, Jenny works across multiple industries beyond her self-storage sweet spot, giving UIP a unique and versatile underwriting edge.
But Jenny’s not all about insurance — she’s got a romantic streak in her music taste! We built her playlist, “Jenny’s Jewels,” featuring gems like Everything I Do (I Do It for You) by Bryan Adams, Layla by Eric Clapton, Raise Your Glass by Pink, and I Gotta Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas.
Thanks to listeners in 3,000+ cities and 95 countries, we’re gearing up to celebrate 8 years on September 24th!

🔥 Brand New Music Alert! 🔥
We’re thrilled to debut “Hold On to Your Dream” by Rick Stiles, produced by none other than Howard Steele—our multiple gold record winner and co-founder of Studio 55 with Richard Perry!
Straight from Howard’s stunning new Montana studio, this track sounds amazing, and we’re proud to break it right here on Radio Wilder!
🎙️ Also just recorded: a great Conversations session with Jenny Bortman, President of Universal Insurance Programs. Look for it on our YouTube channel @radiowilder by the end of August—don’t miss it!
This week’s Deuces brings us raw Garage Rock from the Pacific Northwest with The Wailers and The Sonics battling it out on “Dirty Robbers.”

🔥 Fresh off being featured on Feedspot, one of the powerhouse rock-casters out there—Radio Wilder is back under the Big Top with another wild ride!
Wait… did we seriously open the show with “Elysian Persuasion” by Ozomatli? Who the hell is that and where did it come from? It came from one of our all-time favorite playlists—Dapper Dan’s list at Glai Ban, the best Thai food joint in Phoenix. His music picks are super eclectic, super cool, and totally unlike anything you’d ever hear in a restaurant. But it works, because Glai Ban’s customers are just as electric as the playlist.
This week’s Deuces is a treat: “Killer Joe” from 1963, by four Filipino brothers—Tony, Junior, Eddie, and Albert—led by their dad Doroteo. It hit #16 and was inspired by the King of the Discotheque himself, Killer Joe Piro! We're spinning the original and the Kingsmen cover from the same year.
Also on deck:
🎶 “Handclap” from Fitz and the Tantrums
🎶 “Gumboots” from Paul Simon’s Graceland—ranked #118 in the Top 500 albums of all time
🎶 And we wrap it up funky with “4 + 20” from Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
Thanks as always for listening—you all rock just as hard as the playlist. Tune in and enjoy the ride!
Rock on, even as the legends leave us 🎸❤️
We just lost Ozzy this Tuesday. He was 76 and had just wrapped up his reunion tour with Black Sabbath. Last week, we said goodbye to Connie Francis at 80. As we spin nearly 80 years of rock 'n’ roll, these losses hit more often. But the music? It never stops. It’s the heartbeat of our lives—and we keep playing it.
Because our shows are recorded a week or two in advance, we couldn’t slip Ozzy in this week. But we’ve got a worthy stand-in—Alice Cooper and the Hollywood Vampires at the Helmand. And in memory of Connie, The Red Bird Girls are bringing the heat with I’m Just a Down-Home Girl.
We kick off with Strong Enough by Monovision, and you might just catch a little musical ménage à trois from the Hawaii Mudbombers. Need advice on how to turn a “no” into a “yes”? No Costume, No Candy, and No Money No Honey will spell it out for you.
Plus, a Texas garage band called Sweet Smoke is covering Morning Dew (originally by Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart) and it's a vibe.
Join us in our rock ’n’ roll studio and listen to your heart’s content. And don’t miss August 2nd—we’re going live with Jenny Bortman, President of Universal Insurance Programs, right in the studio!
Let’s keep the music playing.
