J. Aaron Hipp, PhD is the Associate Professor of Community Health and Sustainability, Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management, and Fellow, Center for Geospatial Analytics, North Carolina State University (NCSU), is a built environment and physical activity researcher and teacher. Dr. Hipp is PI of an NCI R21 project using public, outdoor, online webcams across the globe and the crowdsourcing website, www.mturk.com, to measure physical activity and built environments. Dr. Hipp is currently PI of a primary project within the Washington University in St. Louis (former institution) NCI Transdisciplinary Research on Energetics and Cancer (TREC) Center: ‘Supports at Home and Work for Maintaining Energy Balance.’ This project has the goal of understanding effects of worksite and home built environments on human energetics and sedentary time, including using ecological momentary analysis (EMA). Dr. Hipp is also employing EMA on a pre/post investigation of employee and staff movement and collaborative efforts associated with a new academic building on WUSTL’s campus. Finally, he is part of an international team of researchers recently funded to develop ParkIndex, a mobile tool to facilitate active use of nearby parks.
