Kev is recovering from a weekend away in Liverpool with friend JD where they did Beatles tourist things such as visiting their houses, going to an exhibition and a pub crawl in the famous Mathew Street ending with Live Music in the Cavern. We mainly discuss the new Beetlejuice movie which has had mixed reviews as well as the new Blumhouse Horror movie afrAId and new Netflix movie Rebel Ridge. All that and the usual jokes and arguments.
Drew was unable to be in this episode so Kev & James take the reins. They discuss top 10 lists for M. Night Shyamalan Movies (from The Sixth Sense to TRAP), Goth Movies (from The Crow to The Addams Family) and Classic Movies that were originally panned by Critics (from Alien to Home Alone). The latter subject forces us to go a little deeper on these classic movies and discuss how important the after sales of VHS was in the evolution of the movie industry.
Kev worked with Elijah Baker a few years back on a short film called 'Ethel' when he was the Stills Photographer. It starred Elijah, Miriam Margolyes, Professor Green and was Produced by 'Three Wise Monkeys'. Kev even had a small role in the film playing 'Shifty Lad 2'. You can find the Short on Youtube. Elijah is full of life and you can see and hear the pure joy he has in discussing movies and the industry. We discuss strange auditions and Drew also being an actor adds to the strangeness. It was so much fun speaking to Elijah that we ended up talking longer than expected and we will arrange a sequel as we have so much more to discuss. Elijah is knowledgeable and a huge fan of cinema from martial arts to comedy and everything in-between.
Drew is crashing at a friend's in Brighton while he starts training for his new job. We discuss some recently watched movies including a found footage horror and American Psycho. From here we do impressions of Zippy from Rainbow and discuss the new plot of Spider-man where Tom Holland is reportedly going to be a bad guy. Then we discuss the 2 big movies last week: The Crow and Blink Twice but no spoilers for Blink Twice as it's such a great movie Kev skirts around any information that will spoil the plot. That would be this week's recommendation to watch at the cinema, The Crow would be the opposite. We end by discussing movie titles that give away the plot.
James is back and we discuss recent news but not before you hear our new music intro. Kev and Drew directed some concepts but it was Drews genius brother Doug who managed to turn the ideas into an impressive theme tune for this podcast. We discuss the big summer blockbuster Alien Romulus and go into detail but as ever we go off the rails.
Special guest Kate joins us again which brings up thoughtful discussions and mad topics. She tells us about pranks that have become a family tradition and Kev tells everyone about his friend JD who has a rubber chicken called Paul, how he got his name, his adventures to the other side of the world and meeting celebrities then getting kidnapped and ransomed. We have a new 'Guest 2 Guest' section where we ask a guest to ask a random question to the next guest which brings up the conversation about movies adapted from books. There is the usual mention of Emmanuel Bonami but we go into a little more detail this time.
Our planned guest has to postpone (we will have them on in the near future) so we make an emergency call to a previous guest to join us which they were happy to do. We have no James this week due to Daddy duties but we have a hilarious chat with our surprise guest. Drew tries to tell us a heart warming story where he keeps saying things that make us fall about laughing uncontrollably and Kevin almost chokes on his drink. Our conversations are fun even though we do try to have a few discussions on serious subjects as well as our guests' adventurous nature.
Special guest today is Aaron who is Kevs friend from London where they used to work together. He moved to Sweden a few years ago with his partner (now fiancé) and we learned about what a lifestyle change that has been. Kev and Aaron bonded over photography and spent regular weekends wandering the streets of London on pub crawls whilst being creative and getting more people involved turning it into eventful days out. In this episode we review the new M. Night Shyamalan release starring Josh Hartnett: TRAP and we all answer an audience question that has come in as a Voice Note all the way from America. We end with a new feature that we are trying out which is asking our current guest to ask a random question to next week's guest.
We let you guys know about our analytics regarding all the countries that listen to this Podcast from Australia to USA and we welcome anyone listening to contact us to be a guest. This week there were huge announcements from Disney regarding new movies and anticipated sequels as well as other movie news from Hulk Hogan to Spinal Tap. In the week the Olympics had their closing ceremony we all went to see the new movie Borderlands and give it a review which divides our opinions.
We start by discussing the top 10 animated sitcoms as rated by someone random or maybe Keith. James is tired and wants to end the record so we all keep finding new topics to discuss to annoy him which works pretty well as he perks up when we give him the limelight. We also discuss Movie sequels that killed off the franchise which prompts some impressions you may recognise if you have heard earlier episodes.
