“People feel closer to their neighbors in their community; they get to know them better than they ever did before they had these radios." These are the words of Alan Thompson/W6WN, Public Information Officer for the El Dorado county Amateur Radio club in northern California. According to Alan, his Neighborhood Radio Watch program has about 400 Members in El Dorado County, spread across five distinct neighborhoods, each with its own GMRS Repeater. Alan reports that his group also helped kick-start two other programs in nearby Amador County. Here’s the second excerpt of two from Alan's "Radio for the Rest of Us" talk he gave to the Third QSO Today Virtual Ham Expo in August 2021.
