Today's topic can be quite a contentious topic for a lot of women. It is something most of us have done at one time or another and it is something that many experts still advocate as being the only way to lose weight.
And, that is counting calories.
Who cringes at just hearing that?
I do. I cringe because it brings up all sorts of bad feelings. Feelings of desperation, deprivation and hunger.
And for someone like me who couldn’t go more than an hour without eating, this was not ideal.
Because counting calories definitely means eating less. Wayyyyy less. There was no way I could ever do that.
I tried though. But not for long. It was too painful in so many different ways.
Calorie counting to me meant starving myself, eating foods I didn’t really enjoy and feeling like a failure because I couldn’t stick to it.
That’s one end of the pendulum. The other end is worse. Much worse. This end of the pendulum means obsession, total restriction, all-consuming deprivation and a desperation to be thin at all costs.
