Dr. Heather Koons and I dive into a fascinating conversation about preserving childhood, curating curiosity, outdoor adventures, creating an environment of learning and traveling with your kids. She has so many good ideas such as a Great Wall of questions, scattering fun learning resources for your kids to find and peppering life with some thrills.
Dr. Heather Koons and her husband have been home educating their children for 6 years now. They have a 10, 8 and 5 year old. She studied neuroscience and religion at the University of Virginia before attending medical school at Yale. She did her neurology residency and fellowship at Vanderbilt where she remains as an Assistant Professor of Neurology. She sees patients with movement disorders, is the Associate Program Director of the Neurology residency program, serves as the VA site director for neurology rotations for 5 residency programs, and runs a deep brain stimulation elective for the medical students.
As brilliant and accomplished as she is, one of her true passions is creating an amazing and fun learning environment for her kids. Heather describes their life of learning as "eclectic child-lead adventures" focused on preserving the wonder of childhood. She is excited to see where their kids' passions take them this year and I am excited to share this amazing conversation with you! Thanks for tuning in!
