Ransom Note

Let's get weird on a Friday as we invite the wonderful Olive T from the mean streets of New York City to contribute to a special edition of the Ransom Note Mix series. A fine selector she has contributed with style to the likes of the Truants mix series and Discwoman. She has also established herself as a firm presence on the airwaves with appearances on the likes of Radar Radio, Brooklyn Radio and more. Her tastes are far reaching and her musical presentation can feature anything from house to hip hop, jazz to techno, funk, soul, disco and beyond. A true dj and an aspiration in the booth this one is worth strapping in for...

A couple of weekends back David Barbarossa opened proceedings for the likes of Chic, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Pointer Sisters and several others. It's safe to say that if you've been trusted with such a role then you must have a thing or two going for you behind the booth. The longstanding Glaswegian disc jockey is a bit of a legend in the North, a committed purveyor of the finest funk, soul, disco, house and beyond. If you were to ask a fair proportion of the city as to who was the best on home soil then we'd be prepared to bet that David would come up trumps. From humble, low key roots and late nights in dive bars through to the big stage and acclaim of Moodymann he is what some might call a dj's favourite dj. No pretension, no fuss - just great music.

On a Monday we like to navigate our way through the remains of the weekend via the soundtrack of ambient, soundscapes, ethereal melodies and a softer tone.

It is for this reason that we have decided to nominate Emilie Levienaise - Farrouch to contribute to the latest in our ever evolving musical mix series as she delivers an uneasy accompaniment to your Monday afternoon. The French, London based producer and composer is perhaps best known for her work on various film scores. However, she is soon set to release a new album on 130701, the post classical sub label of FatCat Records. She draws upon a wealth of musical knowledge and experience to guide us through a beautiful journey...

There is very little information about Sports Casual, that's the way we like it so we don't intrude too much. All we know is that this mix bangs, grooves and meanders it's way through the ethereal into new break territory. UK inspired with a love for Scouse House, the deep and mystic beyond. There's nothing like a good mysterious alias so we'll let them do the talking...

Based in South Queensferry, Scotland - Ben Chatwin is a producer and musician whom has been naturally drawn towards the abstract, the ethereal and the darkness of ambient soundscapes. This month he will release a new album which is titled "Staccato Signals" - a moody deep rooted collection of tracks which casts a hypnotic spell. He has been releasing music for nine years both under his own name and as Talvihorros - each outing has allowed him to expand upon an intricate lineage of musical development and self exploration. Blending elements of the acoustic with electronic he has asserted himself as a singular connoisseur. Happy Monday!

Now here's a turn up for the books. We don't tend to do this terribly often but in certain circumstances we ask some of our favourite disc jockeys to return to the fold, to deliver the undeliverable and see if they can surpass themselves.

Sano has appeared as part of our longstanding mix series previously but it felt apt and humble to invite him back once more. With releases on the likes of Comeme, Public Possession and having just appeared on the Bawrut remix EP for Ransom Note Records he is in more demand than ever before. Now based in Barcelona but originiating from Colombia we are delighted to have him here once more as he delivers an eclectic mix which blends elements of house, funk, soul, disco and percussion in a flamboyant show of force.
