On this evening’s show we’ll listen to this past week in recording history, and celebrate the birthdays of Ted Lewis, Fred Waring and Raymond Klages, and celebrate the life of my friend and co-worker Ben, who died recently of cancer.

Segment 1: Banjo Ben
My friend Ben packed an awful lot of living into his short 30 years of life. Athlete, musician, actor, singer, marine science instructor and sailor (amongst other things). He was affectionately known as Benjo or Banjo Ben, and is best remembered for singing sea chanties and playing the banjo. He had a positive impact on all whose lives he touched, family, friends, co-workers, and hundreds and hundreds of students and summer campers, and he is greatly missed. But to celebrate the life of Banjo Ben, we’re going to start the show with a “banjo” set.
