Segment 1: Topic
May 14 in 1945, the dramatic adventure serial “The Sparrow and the Hawk” was first broadcast over CBS radio. So to start the show we’re going to begin with a set of songs about birds.

Segment 2: Tennessee
May 14 in 1945, the western adventure series “Tennessee Jed” made its debut on ABC radio, so here in its honor, is a set of songs about Tennessee.

Segment 3: Mine
May 16 in 1910, Congress authorized the creation of the U.S. Bureau of Mines, so here to commemorate this are some “mine” song.

Segment 4: Nickels
May 16 in 1866, the U.S. Treasury Department added another coin to American currency by authorizing the minting of a five-cent coin, the nickel. So here in commemoration of the five-cent piece are some songs about nickels.

In 1912 Charley Straight and ragtime singer Gene Greene teamed up and toured England in 1912.
