Rapidly Rotating Records 78 RPM Show – 23 September 2001

Listen Later

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

On this evenings show we will celebrate the strength of Americans, hear about some Bills, trip to New York, and treasure our time together.

Enjoy the show!

Here’s the complete playlist:

Segment 1: People
Celebrating “the people” and asserts that America’s greatness lies in its ordinary citizens.

Ballad for Americans – Paul Robeson

Segment 2: Bills
September 19 in 1935, the serial drama “Just Plain Bill” was first heard on CBS radio. It was “The real life story of people just like people we all know.” So here to commemorate “Just Plain Bill” are some songs about some other bills.

Brother Bill – Brian Lawrance
Bill – Victor Baravali
Won’t You Come Home Bill Bailey – Arthur Collins /acc. Fred Hage

Segment 3: Precious Time
September 21 marked the birth in 1866 in England of H. G. Wells. His first novel was “The Time Machine”. Unfortunately, we don’t have a time machine to be able to go back and change the events of September 11. I do have some songs here about time, and I guess the point of this segment would be that each of us has just a short time here on this earth, so make the most of every little moment you have.

Every Little Moment – Dorsey Brothers Orchestra / Kay Weber, v.
My Time is Your Time – Rudy Vallee
Time on My Hands – Percival Mackey / Queenie Leonard
You’re My Past, Present and Future – Abe Lyman / Frank Sylvano

Segment 4: New York
If you’ve been watching the news since September 11, you’ve heard New York Mayor Giuliani talking about the resolve of the people of New York and how the city will rebuild and come back from this tragedy greater than ever. Here are some songs in tribute to New York.

Manhattan – Calif. Ramblers
Manhattan Rag – Irving Mills and His Hotsy Totsy Gang /Hoagy
My New York – Mal Hallet / Frank Marvin
The New Yorker – Red Nichols / Red McKenzie
Good Old NY – Jelly Roll Morton’s Hot Seven

Segment 5: America

God Bless America – Kate Smith
