Rapidly Rotating Records 78 RPM Show – 25 July 2010

Listen Later

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

On this evening’s show, we’re going to play ten songs. Actually, we’re going to play more than ten songs, but we’re playing songs having to do with the number ten, because this is our tenth anniversary show! The first Rapidly Rotating Records show was broadcast on KISL o n July 23, 2000, and we’ve been here ever since.

And, this is going to be a special two hour show. The second hour will actually be the very first Rapidly Rotating Records show from 2000.

Enjoy the show!

Here’s the complete playlist:

Segment 1: Number Ten

Number Ten – Jack Hylton’s Hyltonians
Ten Little Miles From Town – The Harmonians / Unidentified, v.
Tenth Interval Rag – Gene Rodemich’s Orchestra
Ten Pahnds Dahn – Norman Long

Segment 2: Ten Ten Ten

Ten Cents A Dance – The High Hatters / Welcome Lewis, v.
Ten O’Clock Town – Eddy Duchin AHO / Buddy Clark, v.
Ten Tiny Toes – Sol Hoopii and His Novelty Quartet
Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes – Munro’s Jardin De Dance Orchestra

Segment 3: Streams
I got a nice email the other day from listener Tiia in Finland. She requested to hear “By A Rippling Stream” by Johnny Hamp’s Kentucky Serenaders, so here they are to start off a set of rapidly rotating records about streams.

By A Rippling Stream – Johnny Hamp and His Kentucky Serenaders / Cliff Gamet – Charles Socci / Carl Garub, v.
By A Silv’ry Stream – Herb Wiedoeft’s Cinderella Roof Orchestra
I Want To Dream By The Old Mill Stream – King Nawahi’s Hawaiians
Beside A Lazy Stream – Frank Black AHO / Scrappy Lambert, v.

Segment 4: For No Particular Reason

The Cat’s Whiskers Are Turning Gray – Benson Orchestra of Chicago
I’m A Seeker of Beauty – Ted FioRito’s Orchestra / Unidentified, v.
Cuban Love Song – Ruth Etting
Wah-Dee-Dah – The Three Keys

That’s going to do it for the first half of this special tenth anniversary edition of Rapidly Rotating Records. For the second half, I’m simply going to play the very first Rapidly Rotating Records show, broadcast here on KISL ten years ago on July 23, 2000.
